THE REVIEW: PFW DAY TWO

Ilyse Terri, Llc

It was a day of combining contrasting styles at #PFW2016.

Lanvin mixed pajama and professional styles, clothes that you would not dare to wear at the same time.

On top of that, the sex appeal was brought!

The sheer styles were used just enough to “reveal and conceal.”

The tuxedos were made in fabrics that you could just curl up at the desk and fall asleep in.

Cobalt blue, this coming spring!

This color looked beautiful on the runway contrasting the black and white outfits before them.

We see some more nipple showing too, what a way to be comfortable with showing more skin!

Rihanna has done it again with bringing urban wear beautifully to the runway.

Victorian era met street wear on the runway for Fenty x Puma!

Even a switch of gender roles with the men wearing pearls and the women wearing du rags.

The pastels could fit any skin tone and are more affordable, so it’s no surprise that everyone interested would want these trend setting clothes.

This theme was perfect to represent the elegance and edge of Rihanna.

Not only was it shown through the clothes but through the music as well.

For example, “Down in the DM” by Yo Gotti was one of the many remixed instrumentals played in the background.

She also gave attendees free year passes to Tidal, where the fashion show was live streamed, and pink champagne from Jay-Z’s Ace of Spades.

Bienvenue Paris Fashion Week!

Paris Fashion Week has begun and we are looking out for the greatest designs showcased by Isabel Marant, Comme des Garcons, Balmain, Louis Vuitton and much more!

Today was Yves Saint Laurent SS17 and of course, we loves us some #YSL.

Feast your eyes on their #PFW show here:

It was Creative Director, Anthony Vaccarello doing Hedi Slimane’s take on Saint Laurent and making a pretty good job of it.

The deep sweetheart neckline is in and bold metallics are on the runway again as cute wrap dresses and skirts

Using the YSL logo to fill the heel of their strappy stilleto’s put us over the edge though.

We. LOVES. It.

A great show to prove-once again-that they don’t call it #SaintLaurent for nothing!

The brand does seem to be under a bit of construction hinted at by the large crane holding their logo and by the imperfect tailoring that could only have been done on purpose.

“It was a departure, wasn’t it,” famed L.A. retailer Tommy Perse of Maxfield said afterward.

Yesterday kicked off Day One of Advertising Week in NYC!

HIGHLIGHTS

SNAPCHAT is making a spectacle!

Snapchat announced on Friday that it is rebranding itself as Snap Inc. and launching a pair of techy sunglasses called Spectacles that will let #marketers, #creators and #users change how they #film and #post clips.

Check them out here:

What does this mean? First you will no longer need a smartphone to shoot buzzy #Snapchat videos and second-we can finally go ahead and take those not so fashionable go pro’s off our head 😉

There’s more…

Ann Simonds from General Mills and Imran Khan from Snapchat, talked about Storytelling in the Age OF Snapchat. Storytelling is the main aspect of mass communications and utilizing Snapchat with its 150 million users is smart in this modern day media age!

Richard Gingras, Senior Product Director at Google talks about how mobile speed is proportionate with a business’ marketing performance! 19.1 seconds is how long one has to wait for a page to load but the amount of time someone wants to wait is only 3 seconds. You can imagine how this much of a gap can really dampen a user’s experience with a company and all the work put into the marketing strategies.

Overall digital media convergence is changing the experience and the choice of media that businesses should use to advertise and market to consumers!

It is a big topic because of all the advancements happening so quickly and how it allows everyone to be connected through the same medium.

We’ve been asking for these and love finding new ways to snap and connect. Nicely done SnapChat!

MCDONALDS

The burger company is all about staying “out of the box”, posting and creating fun content and staying away from labels because frankly, “they’re absurd.”

We couldn’t agree more!

CMO Deborah Wahl talked about the burger slinger’s revamp during the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s IAB Mixx Conference. Specifically, she called out some of the brand’s work on Twitter, Snapchat and YouTube as examples of the chain’s successful digital work.

“In the last two years, we’ve created approximately 2,500 pieces of marketing content a year,” she said. “This year, we will create roughly 5,000 pieces of marketing content, so we’re making more content but we’re also challenging ourselves to make our content much more valuable to our customers.”

Most recently, McDonald’s handed its massive $1 billion creative and media business to Omnicom, which is creating a dedicated unit for the account that will be staffed with employees from DDB, Sparks & Honey, Critical Mass and tech companies like Google and Facebook.

The new approach is aimed at building, “the type of agency that could drive the innovation, velocity and impact that we require,” Wahl said.

“I really think we’ve tried to define media and marketing very narrowly,” she added. “We label the ways we talk to people, but marketing communication is no longer executed via separate vehicles—digital, broadcast, print or mobile. Defining marketing by these channel-based labels is actually absurd in today’s world.”

THE REVIEW: LFW DAY FIVE

The last day closed in great spirits as everyone enjoyed the grand finale of #LFW #AW16.

What a way to wrap it all up!

HIGHLIGHTS

Marques’Almeida

Both trained in womenswear, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida subscribe to the Helmut Lang school of thought, where ‘fashion is about attitude, not hemlines’.

LFWAW16-Day5-MA

While their aesthetic evokes raw effortlessness, the pair’s technical sensibilities are revealed in the construction of each piece.

Cutting their teeth at Vivienne Westwood and Preen respectively, Marques and Almeida took the natural course of combining talents while on the MA at Central Saint Martins, hitting the mark between impulse and consideration.

They launched MARQUES’ALMEIDA in April 2011 and showed for their first 2 seasons under Lulu Kennedy’s platform, Fashion East.

In 2014 they were awarded NEWGEN sponsorship from the British Fashion Council / Topshop, showing for 5 seasons as a part of NEWGEN.

In May 2015 MARQUES’ALMEIDA were awarded the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. The design duo launched their debut Resort collection in 2015 and later in the year staged their first independent on-schedule show for spring/summer 2016.

In 2015 MARQUES’ALMEIDA were asked to design costumes for the New York City Ballet’s Fourth Annual Fall Fashion Gala, conceived by Sarah Jessica Parker, debuting in September 2015.

MARQUES’ALMEIDA is currently stocked globally in top department stores, with their stockist list growing each season.

TOGA

Showcased their Spring/ Summer 2017 styles yesterday. The trend was unexpected, with the mix and match of fabrics that one wouldn’t usually wear together like sweaters and plastic. The Japanese company put at least one strap on every outfit, whether it was used on the side, the neck or the waist. Metallic open toed shoes were used to compliment some of the outfits as well as clear plastic and bright pastel boots.

Oliver Spencer

Let’s not forget the men!

Oliver Spencer introduced his Spring/Summer 2017 collection today at LFW. Earthy tones were used such as olive for the jackets, a deep red for any item and black, gray and white used all around. Stripes, plaid and a distinct circular gray pattern were also used throughout most of the looks. Very classy and traditional patterns that men would wear.

Burberry & Dazed

Last night, Burberry and Dazed came together to celebrate the launch of the Jean Campbell cover of the 25th anniversary issue.

Burberry chief creative and chief executive officer Christopher Bailey was in attendance, along with Campbell who is also the star of the brand’s latest campaign.

The night saw DJ sets performed by #Burberry model #HayettMcCarthy (who, you may remember, paid tribute to #DavidBowie in quite a unique way at the brand’s last show) and current Burberry campaign star, British musician #CavanMcCarthy, as well as vocalist #AustinWilliams.

The event was staged at Burberry’s new London show space, #MakersHouse, which is located on Manette Street in Soho. This was also the setting for the brand’s ‘September’ show on Monday. Featuring models Lineisy Montero and Dilone, this show saw the presentation of Burberry’s first ‘See Now, Buy Now’ collection – a line inspired by iconic Virginia Woolf novel Orlando set in the Elizabethan period.

Starting today, Makers House will be open to the public for a week and will be showcasing original works by a selection of #makers who will use this space to experiment and create, using the September collection’s inspiration as the starting point for their work.

On to Milan starting with @gucci today! Will post pics but won’t have full daily coverage there. Turning our focus a little bit toward the other industries we know and love and prepping for Paris fashion as well. Will cover all there!

THE REVIEW: LFW DAY FOUR

Ilyse Terri, Llc

Yesterday was Day 4 and we came alive with #BURBERRY!

The iconic fashion brand launched its long-awaited runway-to-retail model in London last night with a show of epic proportion. Staged in a disused courtyard and warehouse behind the old Central Saint Martins building on Charing Cross Road (which was transformed into an outdoor oasis, twinkling with festoon lighting), Burberry created #MakersHouse – a workshop-style installation that saw artists embroidering textiles, sculpting plastered busts, and making artisanal chocolates – a part of a collaboration with The New Craftsmen – to an exclusive live soundtrack played by a 21-piece orchestra.

The main topic on everyone’s mind was how would the see-now, buy-now model work? The questions were soon answered.

Would there be fewer looks from the brand famous for delivering their biannual blockbusters? No – there were 83 comprehensive looks. Editors were invited under embargo earlier this year to view the collection and request pieces for their shoots. And, would all of it be going into production? Yes.

Burberry lfw aw16

“Every piece that will be presented on the runway will be available to buy the minute the show ends,” Bailey told us earlier this week. “I hope that what we’ll be able to do is create a moment that feels relevant when the customer actually sees it, rather than telling him or her they’ve got to wait another five or six months after we’ve excited them.”

Bailey told us before the show that he believes that adopting the new model will not only help the house become more in touch with its consumer, but its own creative structure too.

Burberry lfw2016

“This change in the way we are working has actually given us much more opportunity to unpack what craft and creativity means for us,” said Bailey. “Working in the way that we have been for the last few months has meant that we have been able to create a world of experiences – Makers House being one example. Another key shift has been the combination of our men’s and women’s collections – and I’ve found that you’re able to create more of a story when you get your men’s and women’s collections together, because it reflects one mood and one moment. Something that doesn’t change is the customer’s expectation of creativity and quality – they want an incredible product delivered in a seamless and luxurious way.”

THE REVIEW: LFW DAY THREE

Ilyse Terri, Llc

Today Topshop brought the Unique catwalk show to East London’s iconic Spitalfields market, a fitting location given you could (and still can) shop a select edit of runway pieces immediately after the show. The British fashion retailer made sure to present everything that will be sold and can be bought right away. It was as if you can look at the catwalk and put it right in your closet. Kate Phelan, TopShop’s creative director, is focusing on putting their customer first and breaking the boundary between runway and retail again.

David Koma has presented his Ready-to-Wear collection for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2017. The black and white cut-out outfits are embellished with medium silver buttons, some open and some closed. Later on the outfits had a pop of neon yellow color, this isn’t the first time we are seeing the prominent yellow on the runway!

This London based designer created perfect sandals and strappy heels to go with the dresses. The colors were either black, nude or a close to neon yellow with the same silver buttons on the strap. As the models walked away one can see the dark red bottom standing out against the colors of the clothes.

Branding + Fashion

Desigual launched their Spring/Summer 2017 collection during NYFW this past week. They created a unique statement, not just on their clothes but on the model’s faces!

This Spanish brand incorporated Snapchat filters on the runway.

A very smart decision that could bring consumers, fashionistas and techies together.

The clothes could seem more attainable for people who have not thought of buying clothes from the company or the runway before.

Versus by Versace, still lovingly run by Donatella Versace, showcased their new designs today.

Seems like monochrome outfits is a trend this year! But for Versus, these outfits were limited to all black, all metallic with dark eye makeup, or all denim. Olive and mustard were also apparent colors used for this autumn season. Majority of the items were also made with many noticeable silver zippers.

This Monday, Burberry will be on the catwalk! Christopher Bailey will be showcasing men and women’s styles. We cannot wait to see how the distinctive patterns of Burberry will be put together on the runway this year.

THE REVIEW: LONDON IS OPEN

Ilyse Terri, Llc

Today, the BFC launched its #LondonIsOpen campaign, supported by London mayor Sadiq Khan. Khan reiterated optimism about the British fashion industry as it embarks on its spring/summer 2017 – and in see-now, buy-now cases autumn/winter 2016 – showcase.

“London Fashion Week begins today, showing that London is open to the world and is an international leader of creativity and entrepreneurship,” said Khan. “There’s a fantastic range of designers and talent on the schedule this season, highlighting the very best the industry has to offer – from big brands to independent retailers, the London fashion scene has never been more diverse.”

Later on that night there was a launch party for the official re-launch of the Vivienne Westwood Rocking Horse shoe. From the bold patterns and the monochrome outfits to the shorts or pants showing under the skirts, fashionistas would describe Westwood’s designs as avant-garde, or how one can simply say, “out of the box”.
As you know-we like that and we love VW.
